Got it for cave exploration and it has quickly become my "go to" flashlightBest headlamp I've ever owned. Nitecore HC68 is equipped, on the side of the projector, with grooves that facilitate the dissipation of heat when used at high luminous powers. When the light is off, a long press of the power button engages turbo mode which turns both the wide and narrow beam LEDs for 60 seconds. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. The anodisation is the usual satin black, and threads are sufficiently lubricated to make them move smoothly with no grinding feeling.

A built-in battery voltage indicator under the button will display battery voltage each time the battery is installed and the end cap is tightened. The charging feature suits us well as the torch is always kept in a handy place and always charged up and ready to use. These threads are fairly fine and quite long (it takes a lot of twisting to remove this tailcap), but because they’re anodized (and lubed), they’re very smooth.

The USB-C port of the HC68 is hidden underneath a screw cap with O-ring, making the light completely waterproof (IP68).

As I’ve mentioned in other reviews, my sphere doesn’t seem to play nicely with very floody lights, but the curves between spot and flood look mostly the same – but this time it seems to be fairly accurate, which is nice.In each topic I will bold the key sentences, so it will be easier to notice what's the most important. The ability to combine both beams to a level that fit your needs is what makes the HC68 a special headlamp. I also don’t see much point in doing throw measurements at the lower levels, so I’ll be doing it on Mid, High, and Higher on both 100% flood and 100% spot, as well as Turbo.

For reference, here’s a baseline shot, with all the room lights off and almost nothing hitting the sensor. Other tests were carried out by putting the Nitecore HC68 in Higher, High and Mid mode using the depth LED (Spotlight).Powered by the included 2 x AA batteries, it is one button operable for 3 brightness levels and BEACON mode. Unfortunately, the PWM on this light is so bad that it doesn’t even work with my normal scale, which is 50 microseconds (50us). It needs to be made from this material because the light is enhanced with quite the output and can heat up. The low, and in particular, the red light modes make it suited for night photography and reading maps in the dark; you can use the red flashing light as a warning light. hours, so I’m quite impressed with the accuracy on that for 100% spot, and even happier that it ran for longer on flood.

Includes: Nitecore NL1835HP 18650 3500mAh li-ion battery, spare o-ring, USB-C charging cable, headband, bracket. It is powered by a 3500 mAh 18650 Li-ion battery included (or alternatively by 2 CR123 / RCR123 batteries) with a maximum autonomy of up to 800 hours, and is rechargeable via the USB-C connector. Reveal the port by unscrewing the USB cover on the right side of the torch and then simply plug the included cable into the charging port and the other end into a suitable USB power source. The result is that the focus of the light can be adjusted from very wide and even beam to a narrowly focused beam. The setting of the various levels is memorized and maintained even after turning off the flashlight. In conclusion of the Nitecore HC68 I particularly appreciated the adjustable beam between spot and flood, the auxiliary red LEDs that can be appreciated in particular situations where the white light disturbs or is too visible, the possibility of using non-proprietary 18650 batteries, the excellent construction and packaging complete with everything. Note: *The run-time for higher is tested without temperature regulation active and therefore output and run-time in higher may differ. There are clear cutouts for the red emitters, so they’re pure flood, but that’s the right thing for these aux emitters.
