So here's the question: part of my podcast goals are for parents and professionals to be less stressed and lead happier lives, not just to help the kids, but for themselves. In today’s episode, she reads a beautiful excerpt about her first experience with Cooper’s diagnosis and where professionals said he fell on the spectrum. Kate Swenson, I don't know where they've been, but can you just tell us how you fell into the autism world very briefly.

Her wit and wisdom got me through some of our family’s hardest moments during the early days of my son’s autism diagnosis. It is hard to think about all the kids who could communicate with an iPad if only they had the opportunity to have one at school. Kate describes her life since her son was born in such an eloquent and honest way it made me feel raw at times like my own exact feelings were being read out loud.

If I were to describe Cooper’s toddler years with one word, it would be lonely, a word that I didn’t know before having a baby could be associated with motherhood. Kate Swenson lives in Minnesota with her husband Jamie, and four children, Cooper, Sawyer, Harbor and Wynnie.

Other experiences early on, such as struggles with being in a car seat, suggestions of hearing issues and waking early/not sleeping much also rang very true for me.I work in early years, in a setting g for pre school children with a range of varying needs, with Autism being very prominent within our setting. While it is about Kate’s journey with her son Cooper and autism it is a book of hope and joy and acceptance.
