Description

Great quality smart radiator controls from Drayton who I trust for heating controls having years of central heating experience. So, for the Google hub (“hey Google sync my devices), you can access the heating from a couple of ways from the home control screen.

Dictate the exact levels of heat you desire and automate the heating system with Open Window Detection, Vacation Mode, Valve Protection and other nifty features.Read more about the condition New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). Through the app you can "boost all" to heat each room for x degrees for y minutes or you can create "moments" to control multiple devices such as all bedrooms or the kitchen and the lounge or whatever combination you chose. So if I had both the thermostat and a smart TRV in there would it react to the thermostat or the TRV? Locating the thermostat in a warm space, such as the kitchen, risks it turning off early because for example the cooker or tumble dryer is on and this has warmed up the room.

If I do choose not to put a smart thermostat on all the radiators, would it be worth having a standard TRV on those ones or best with nothing? Now Bram raised a really good point - about the danger of being tied into paid services (which is why he didn’t go with Tado) or just your system being rendered obsolete by the manufacturer going bust.

Also, a wall stat is more convenient to do a quick temp change in a main area without having to get your phone out. My Pairdeer batteries supplied with the kit worked really well for about a year and then the app notified me as one by one the battery levels got too low. Once that is all fine, test the valve opens as you'd expect and hope, both manually by hand (with a short twist to plus) and via the App.

The issue is that while the electronics sound like they are working, the valves either open too much or not at all.Of all the smart radiator valves we looked at, this one was the most pleasing to the eye, so if you care about design details, that might sway you. Whilst this hasn’t been as issue for me, I can see how it could impact the older generation who aren’t so used to using phones. Genuine smart TRVs are in communication with the thermostat and come on and off based on their localised setting and that of the main room thermostat.

Other half works from home most of the time, so I thought a "smart" heating system would save on energy bills as it's much easier to control individual room heating rather than heating the whole house when just the "office" room is being used. You can also turn off radiators in little used rooms (not recommended for rooms you sleep in as it can cause condensation/mould), or just turn them down lower. However, when the battery switches off, the app will notify you a smart thermostat has gone off line which is how you know when to recharge them, and the app prompts you to replace old batteries when they still have useful life left in them - which I know because I’ve reused the pairdeer batteries for things like games consoles, so my approach with the rechargeables seems less wasteful. e. all your home, some of your home or maybe even just one room of your home (although not advised) and to what temperature.
