Description

Some of the tallest stills of any island distillery are used to distil the spirit, adding to the purity of the whisky. This exceptional single malt matures in American white oak ex-bourbon and hand-selected American Rye barrels, imparting depth and complexity. It's initially aged in American white oak bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in Oloroso sherry butts and bottled at 40% ABV. Our boxes are made of 100% recyclable cardboard and our protective honeycomb paper wrap keeps your package safe and significantly reduces our need for plastic. If you are looking for a specific bottle requirement it is recommended that you verify with us before making a purchase.

Having first sampled Isle of Jura in Campbell Town approx 25 years ago and wondered at its smoothness and beauty, last week I purchased as a present what I thought was the same Isle of Jura 10 year old Malt. Generally I love Jura for its smooth brandy-like velvetty flavour, I an not entirely convinced by this particular permutation. Matured in American ex-bourbon barrels and enriched by Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine barriques, this 18-year-old is bottled at 44% ABV. Sweet caramelised nuts, juicy tropical fruits, buttery vanilla, crisp spiced apple with fragrant cinnamon and oak char.Information and statements about products are not intended to be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition. One of only 285 bottles, this Single Malt from Jura was allowed to mature for 12 years in a single refill hogshead cask. The new distillery's architect was William Delmé-Evans, who had previously been involved with Tullibardine and later went on to build Glenallachie. It now runs at a capacity of 2,200,000 litres per year under the watch of current owners Whyte and Mackay Ltd.

Not sure if anyone else got it but this unmistakable tropical fruit/mango finish with a hint of pepper. Delmé-Evans was most involved with Jura, however, remaining on the board until his retirement in 1975. The palate is rich and full-bodied with black forest fruits and some smoky notes, before a bitter chocolate aspect and rich espresso finish. Each time you indulge in a pour, you're sharing a dram with the islanders who played a role in crafting it.Aged in American white oak and a combination of 6 different types of French oak (Vosges, Bertranges, Jupilles, Allier, Troncais and Limousin if you are interested? The perception that single malt whisky is “better” is subjective, however, it does have the reputation for being the highest quality and is usually more expensive than other whisky.
