If you are a fan of horror stories and don't mind gruesome character deaths, then I recommend this series to you.

I went into this book without really knowing what it was about and enjoyed the suspense so I will tell no more about it. He loves to cause as much pain, both mental and physical, as he can and needs pain the way a human needs food and drink. For all ebook purchases, you will be prompted to create an account or login with your existing HarperCollins username and password. Grubbs narrowly escapes death, but suffers from PTSD and is hospitalised due to his poor mental state.Like all Demonata, especially with him being a demon master, he doesn't need any sustenance to survive. The death of Grubb’s friend Loch around book 3 and Bill-E’s involvement was a haunting, horrifying piece of writing and Bill-E’s death several books later as a result was a brilliant example of a story tying together while also being a deeply moving moment In keeping with the traditions of epic fantasy 2 new POV characters are introduced.

Lord Loss also seems to have a sense of arrogance, particularly when it comes to his skill at chess, but at the same time he has shown signs of cowardice.

But shortly after Grubbs' sole surviving adult family member arranges for Grubbs' release from observation, the narrative completely stalls and my interest took a sharp nosedive. When I first started reading I didn’t like Shans ‘the story isn’t being told but it’s happening right now’ style at all. This disturbing tale in the supernatural, zombie/horror genre has a refreshingly inventive storyline and credible and likeable protagonists the reader can really root for.

His speech pattern is characterised by a tone of immense sadness, coupled with the use of quite a sophisticated vocabulary; he rarely uses abbreviations, and always addresses characters by their fulls names as opposed to nicknames. He doesn't have a heart, instead he has a hole on his left chest filled with snakes and he's got 8 hands! Darren Shan is the number-one best-selling author of the series THE SAGA OF DARREN SHAN, the DEMONATA and more recently the SAGA OF LARTEN CREPSLEY and ZOM-B. On opening his bedroom door, Grubbs finds not the bedroom but Hell and the dead bodies of his father, mother and younger sister, all murdered by Lord Loss and his demons. I had no idea what to expect and that's part of the fun, so I won't enlighten you about what this book is about.

One night, he finds the mutilated bodies of his family and encounters Lord Loss, a gruesome human-like demon who sets his two familiars, Vein and Artery, on Grubbs. Dervish convinces an extremely reluctant Grubbs, who is still haunted by nightmares, to take her place. The middle section was a little uneventful but it didn't impact the rest of the book negatively as it still moved quickly. I remember rating a book low because the characters couldn't put together complete phrases while in intimate moments; I think I even used the term "caveman". Lord Loss is next featured when Grubbs, Kernel, Kirilli Kovacs, Timas Brauss, Shark and the werewolf nicknamed 'Moe' enter his world to escape the demon master of the previous world.
